FlashMe on the DS Lite

Today I tried to do my first flash on a US DS Lite. In short it is a tougher ordeal than that of the regular DS. There has been a bit of messages of people bricking their DS Lite and letting us know how to avoid it. However, when I did it myself I couldn't even get the bloody SL1 connector shorted properly. In the end I found a website that described the paper clip approach as

Using a bent paperclip (bend it strait, and then fold in half so ends are the same length), small flat screwdriver, tweezers, a nail, etc. short SL1 When it detects the short, you will see the Process % increase. Be sure to keep SL1 shorted untill you receive a message indicating the flash was successful. If you do not see the Process indicator increasing, then your SL1 is not shorted.
However, the picture of the paper clip was left to our imagination person using paperclip on the DS The paper clip seemed to work where the screwdriver didn't. I had used a screw driver before to flash the old DS successfully. Anyway, I have a theory on this. I think the DS Lite doesn't consider the SL1 connector shorted unless there is some resistance, or at least taking a slightly "longer" path. I am thinking since I also used the round end of the paper clip to short the connector and it didn't work either. Instead I bent the paperclip in the following fashion: my paper clip That's the DS Lite behind the paperclip. There seems to be some magnetic field around that area keeping the paperclip in place. I guess the DS Lite better not come in contact with my credit cards (we people in Canada still use the magnetic strips unlike Europe). So with the paperclip, Passme2z and flashme.nds on hand, everything just went well. Hopefully I'll have the same luck when I do get my own DS Lite. I wish I was in Europe to get the Black DS Lites that were not stolen in Hong Kong, oh well I might just get the white one. I am experiencing withdrawal symptoms already anyway. For those who don't like to flash, you can always get the Max Media Launcher, I think it costs $20 or something last I read in the forums assuming its already out.

That "magnetic field" is the speaker.
